Good news for Aprendiendo Unidos, our Palomas digital education group!  Armelle has donated a Kindle, it arrived this week. That means 2 - 3 more kids have a tablet to use.  Hooray. Have fun setting it up, Juan.  One thing we know as adults, we can always ask a kid to help us.

What is a Digital Schoolhouse?

A Digital Schoolhouse is a mobile learning center that can be anything:  a bus seat, an airplane seat, a cafe chair, a sidewalk, a comfortable couch in a mountain hut.  I go everywhere with the tablets because I meet kids and adults who want to learn on their own.  Many children in Mexico have to leave school at an early age because their family can't afford to send them to school beyond the primary grades.  Mobile education is one way for these kids to continue their studies.

I love to wander through the backcountry of Mexico, enjoying the striking scenery and simple lifestyles.  This is a shot
of El Naranjo, a small village above Urique, Chih.  Of course, there were several kids who wanted to play with TapTapEnglish!  This little gal loved the virtual pets that talk to you in English.  She petted them and tickled them to watch them laugh.  She was fascinated by the English phonics apps, making a word with sounds on a puzzle game.

TapTapEnglish is fun!

Did you know that you can learn almost anything online, for free?

The free education
world is truly amazing.  You can find classes for nearly anything you can imagine.  Here are a few free online sites to get you started:

1.   www.khanacademy.com       Math, science, economics, art history, and more, all in a user-friendly format.  We use KA to assess our learners and help them find the classes they need to advance. KA has over 4,000 videos in English and over 2,000 videos in Spanish and other languages.

2.  www.youtube.com           Millions of educational videos.  We use YouTube Khan Academy espanol to help kids in Palomas get up to their grade level in math and science.

3.  www.coursera.com   I'm taking a computer science class on this site.  It has a very comfortable user interface and some of the best teachers online.

4.  Mobile learning    We use dozens of tablet-based applications.  Search for "free education games" on your tablet or phone.  I recommend Babbel English (or Babblel Spanish!) and Math Blaster.

Good News - a friend of TapTapEnglish has donated 2 more android tablets to our project!

A wonderful lady has ordered two more tablets for our digital education classes.  They should arrive this week. We can help 4 - 6 more kids with these computers because our student often work together on the tablets.  How great is that?  The classes in Palomas meet on:

1. Wed at the Palomas Biblioteca, 3:00pm - 6pm

2.  Sat. at a student's home close to the library at 12:30 - 2:30pm (contact Juan Rascon for directions, see email below).

3.  Juan Rascon, our Palomas coach is available almost anytime.  Contact him at juanrascon63@gmail.com

Juan with Kendra and Dulce.

 Clinton, with Kendra and Monse.

Clinton has been teaching the four kids in one Palomas family for a few years. Now he has embraced digital education and has been learning how to use a computer himself.  We are never to old to learn how to compute.

Contact  taptapenglish@gmail.com or juanrascon63@gmail.com for more information.  All eager students are welcome.  There are no fees or tuition costs.  BYOD (Bring your own device) if you have one. We work together on everything, helping each other learn.  Two of our volunteer digital coaches are learning Spanish.  Hooray for them.
